- Stipends for 6 PhD students in Leipzig, Germany
are available within the International Research Training Group (IRTG) "Diffusion in Porous Materials" and may immediately be applied for. It is implied that the PhD students within the IRTG have finished a Diploma/Master study in Physics, Chemistry or related sciences with excellent results and will contribute with their own initiatives to the success of the research within the IRTG.

- Two PhD projects in fundamentals of adsorption in Edinburgh, UK
Funding is available for two PhD studentships in Chemical Engineering, in the Institute of Materials and Processes at the University of Edinburgh.
The first student would work in collaboration with academic and industrial partners of a US Department of Energy grant on CO2 capture from coal fired power plants. The work will focus on the development and use of a semi-automated measuring device and the implementation of numerical tools needed for the interpretation of the experimental results. The device will be applied to the determination of single component and mixture properties on nanoporous and formed materials prepared by project partners. This will allow rapid screening of novel materials.
The second student will work on the development of a novel type of apparatus that will be used to characterise the performance of adsorption columns with several grams of solid material. This device will have direct applications to the characterisation of process parameters used for gas separations. The main aim is to develop a proof of concept unit that will allow rapid testing under process conditions.
The three year scholarships, in the order of £12,500 per year plus tuition fees, are available for European citizens only. International students may be considered but they will need to cover the difference between home/EU and overseas fees.
Applicants must have a first or a 2.1 Master's or Bachelor's degree (or an appropriate equivalent) in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or Chemistry.
Informal enquiries can be made to the academic supervisor Professor Stefano Brandani (Tel: +44 (0)131 651 9030; Email s.brandani@ed.ac.uk). Formal applications should be sent to:
