About this book:
This book deals with one of the fundamental phenomena of nature, the omnipresent irregular movement of atoms and molecules in matter. In 2005, the Year of Physics, the top worldwide representatives in the pertinent fields have come together to commemorate important anniversaries in the diffusion-related work of Adolf Fick and Albert Einstein. This book compiles the plenary lectures devoted to the fundamentals of diffusion theory, experiment and application, which were specially adapted to serve as an introduction for newcomers to the subject. More than 100 informative extended abstracts of posters on current research projects provide an overview of the state of the art. Recognizing the stimulation of history, the book is graced with views of Leipzig painted by the Japanese physicist and artist, Taro Ito, and includes short presentations on the historical background.
