Travel Information

 

The City of Dresden, capital of Saxony is located in the eastern part of Germany, about 200 km to the south of Berlin and about 150 km to the north-east of Prague. On account of its airport, Dresden is easily accessible. The German railway network links Dresden with all major German and European destinations. Furthermore, the city possesses ideal connections by road and river, both with its immediate surroundings and with more distant destinations. Further details are given below.
Accommodation has to be directly reserved by the participants. A list of suitable hotels is available in the accomodations section.

Arrival by Airplane at Dresden International Airport

There is a limited number of direct international flight connections to Dresden International Airport (Dresden-Klotzsche, DRS). Moreover, Dresden Airport is frequently served via the major German international airports in Frankfurt a.M., Munich and Düsseldorf. From Dresden Airport, the Dresden Central Station can be accessed directly by S-Bahn (local train) line S2 within 20 min. Dresden Airport station is on the lower ground floor of the terminal building. The trains run every 30 minutes (current timetable). Tickets can be obtained at the ticket machine at the station and from the airport information desk on the Arrivals level in the terminal. The fare for a single ticket to Dresden city is 2.20 € (valid on S-Bahn, tram and bus). It is necessary to validate the tickets at the validating machines before entering the train!
Alternatively, Dresden city can be accessed by Bus and Tram (same fare, one change, ca. 40 min travel time).

Furthermore, there are convenient train and bus connections to the airports Leipzig-Halle (ca. 1 1/4 h), Berlin (ca. 2 1/4 h) and Prague (ca. 2 3/4 h).

 
Arrival by Train at Dresden Central Station

From the Central Station, the conference location can be reached by bus and tram. You can take bus line 66 in direction "Mockritz". After 3 stops, you will arrive at the destination "Mommsenstraße". Press the button for your stop request early enough. The bus stop is right in front of the new chemistry building, where the conference takes place.
You can also take tram line 3 (direction "Coschütz") or tram line 8 (direction "Südvorstadt"). After 2 stops, you will arrive at the destination "Nürnberger Platz". After your arrival at the tram stop, use the map on the Location page to find the conference location (5-10 min walk). Don't forget to validate your ticket when entering the bus or tram.

The fare for a single journey ticket is 2.20 €. Price-conscious travellers can buy four single tickets in one at a discount (8 €). For short trips (distances up to the fourth stop after entering trams and buses) it is worth buying a 4-trip ticket for short journeys (5.50 €). Tickets can be purchased at ticket machines at all main stops. On buses, drivers sell tickets themselves. They can only provide you with the main ticket types and take only suitable money.

Arrival by Car

The conference location (chemistry building of the Dresden University of Technology, Bergstraße 66) is located directly at the Bundesstraße B170 (Europastraße E55) in direction of Prague. We recommend to access the conference location from the south via highway A17. Take the exit "Dresden-Südvorstadt" and head the B170 to the city center which directly guides you to the conference site. Please note, that parking space for vistors is rather limited on the University ground.
